Mackey came to B.O.N.E.S. from a bad situation in central Massachusetts. He was underweight and limped painfully. X-rays revealed a displaced femur fracture in his right hind leg – it was amazing that Mackey could use the leg at all. The options didn't look hopeful, but with help from the B.O.N.E.S. Medical Director, a carefully-structured exercise program, and a lot of TLC, he can now lead a normal life.
As Mackey recovered from his injuries, long-time B.O.N.E.S. adopter John was mourning the loss of his long-time beagle companion, Hudson, whose "Chronicles" were documented here for many years. John was settling into a new job with lots of driving, and Mackey loved to ride... a great match. John and Mackey will both share their viewpoints with us on this page.
Good morning from Curtis Bay, Maryland. We've spent most of the summer working out of our facility here, since it has been slow up in Maine.
I took some time in late June to be home to take delivery on my new mobile home! I decided that it was time to upgrade and get something that was more efficient. The old one was getting to the point of needing repairs. So now, I have moved up in the world and I'm now new trailer trash instead of just regular trailer trash. I'm still waiting to be treated with more respect, though.
I spent several weeks prior to the move taking everything off the walls, cabinets, and shelves, making it ready to move. The owner of the company I bought it from offered to move the old one behind the new home, so I could transfer everything from one to another without handling everything twice. It was a very thoughtful gesture, but still a lot more work than I expected.
I got all the permits in order, got all the state and local inspections done, and transferred all the furniture. By that time, it was time to go back to work in Baltimore.
Mackey and I have slept in our new home 4 nights since we moved in back in late June. All of the unpacking and putting away of things remains to be done. It will be a while until I get settled in and it begins to feel like home… all in good time.
The next priority is trying to make it to the Beagle Bash this year. (Mackey is number 19 in the calendar voting, by the way!)
Greetings!
We just got back from a walk around the yard here in Baltimore. I need two walks a day to work off all the treats that I get from Adele each day.
We've been down here a while and it sure has been hot. Luckily, the truck has a good AC to keep me comfortable.
A while back, John had a new home delivered. During the weeks leading up to the delivery, he sure looked busy. I don't know how many trips he made to his storage sheds, but he looked like one of those ants just going back and forth.
Since the new home arrived and everything has been moved in, I'm having trouble settling in. John got a new bed, new recliners, and even a couch. Everything smells new — new furniture, new carpet, new paint, etc. I can't wait until we get some time to live in it and I can get some of my smells into everything! At least I have the smelly old truck to make me feel at home. I hear John talking about the Beagle Bash, so hopefully we can make it this year. Maybe we'll see you at the Bash.
