Mackey came to B.O.N.E.S. from a bad situation in central Massachusetts. He was underweight and limped painfully. X-rays revealed a displaced femur fracture in his right hind leg – it was amazing that Mackey could use the leg at all. The options didn't look hopeful, but with help from the B.O.N.E.S. Medical Director, a carefully-structured exercise program, and a lot of TLC, he can now lead a normal life.
As Mackey recovered from his injuries, long-time B.O.N.E.S. adopter John was mourning the loss of his long-time beagle companion, Hudson, whose "Chronicles" were documented here for many years. John was settling into a new job with lots of driving, and Mackey loved to ride... a great match. John and Mackey will both share their viewpoints with us on this page.
Happy Memorial Day!
Mackey and I are enjoying a rare three-day weekend at home. I crossed some things around the yard off my to-do list, and we were able to get out and socialize a bit. I'm good with that for a while!
Last Saturday, Mackey and I brought the rig to a touch-a-truck event in Bangor. It was part of a suicide awareness event including a walk-a-thon. Fortunately, I was not expected to participate. It was a great event to help raise awareness! Touch-a -truck was a secondary function of the event, so there were fewer people around the equipment, which made it a more relaxed atmosphere.
Even still, both Mackey and I were glad to get home that evening to relax and recover!
We've been keeping close to home the past few weeks, but will probably go back to moving equipment from Baltimore up to Woodland, Maine for a new job that's starting up. There are about six loads in Baltimore to move, so that will keep us busy for a while.
That's about all for now.
Greetings from home.
We're having a lazy, rainy day at home. I have to admit that John has been pretty steadily getting things done around the house and yard. On top of all that, we have gone out to see friends the last two nights! I think I've enjoyed it more than John, probably because everyone is happier to see me than him.
Last weekend, we did another touch-a-truck event, which was nice because there weren't as many kids. I had more time between waves of kids. Even still, I was pretty worn out at the end of it. One of the volunteers was taking some pictures and John snuck into one of me and the truck, which I think would have been better without him! That's just my opinion.
Anyway, tomorrow we're back to work, wherever that may take us.
