Sensational Senior Beagles in New England have something to wag about this summer, as The Grey Muzzle Organization announces the recipients of its annual grants, and senior dogs at B.O.N.E.S. are among the winners.
Beagles of New England States (B.O.N.E.S.) is one of 62 animal welfare groups chosen from 240 applicants to receive a grant to help local senior dogs. The groups received a total of nearly $419,000 in grants to help save or improve the lives of at-risk old dogs in communities nationwide.
B.O.N.E.S. will utilize this grant to increase public awareness about our Sensational Senior Beagle Program through an aggressive marketing campaign via print, broadcast, social and digital media, mass mailings and outreach events. We hope that our efforts will increase interest in adopting senior dogs, which in turn will mean more immediate placement of Sensational Senior Beagles into their adoptive homes and allow B.O.N.E.S. to accept more senior dogs into the Sensational Senior Beagle Program. We are extremely grateful for Grey Muzzle's support!
In the past 11 years, the national nonprofit Grey Muzzle Organization has provided almost $2 million in grants to support its vision of "a world where no old dog dies alone and afraid."
The GMO grant will help to highlight dogs like Happy, who came into the Sensational Senior Beagle program as a severely neglected stray. His teeth were in such poor condition that he was passed over for adoption at a local animal shelter. The shelter contacted B.O.N.E.S., and we were delighted to bring him into our program to provide him with much needed medical care. Happy went to recuperate at his foster home, and soon the 15-year old beagle convinced his foster mom to formally adopt him.
"He hopped on my couch as a foster and decided he was home," she said. "He truly lives up to his name."

"Many senior beagles in the New England area are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of B.O.N.E.S."
B.O.N.E.S. was founded in 2003. The organization is registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a nonprofit organization. The mission is to rescue, rehome, spay/neuter and provide necessary medical care to beagles in need in the New England Area. We endeavor to improve the quality of life for beagles in New England through outreach and education programs.
