Louie was lonely. We'd had her since she was a puppy and when she turned one, we realized she needed a playmate. While we wanted to adopt, we started out by fostering dogs, and Jessie was our first. From the moment Jessie arrived, she let Louie show who would be in charge of the house, and Louie let Jessie take right over. After a long bath and some much needed grooming, Jessie looked like the dignified lady she was. Jessie also became the big sister Louie wanted. Jessie kept Louie from wandering into the garden and digging up the tomato plants or eating the jalapeno peppers. This was a lesson Jessie learned the hard way. The poor girl had a belly ache for days. Jessie was 14 years old but ran and played like a young girl. The winter was very harsh and Jessie had pneumonia twice. Suddenly her age showed. She showed some signs of Cushings and has some fluid in her lungs. One day I returned home to find her in respiratory distress. Jessie passed away that day. It was a great loss to our family and especially Louie. Louie kept Jessie's collar with her for a few weeks and eventually tucked it under her bedding. While we lost a great family member, we will never forget Jessie and the lessons she taught us about having fun and living each day to the fullest. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
