Tribute for Grover Grover crossed Rainbow Bridge on March 5, 2009. He was truly an amazing senior, diagnosed with bladder cancer and given only one to two months to live, he defied those odds by living happily for six months. He definitely was living a wonderful life with Kim, Stan and his canine buddies, Winston and Lizzie. He enjoyed his walks in the woods with Stan and Winston and the nightly "happy hour" when they all had their bedtime snacks together. Winston & Lizzie will miss Grover. Grover taught Winston a lot, especially on their walks in the woods. For Lizzie he was another old fuddy duddy to hang out with. Thanks to Kim and Stan for giving Grover the loving home he so deserved! About Grover B.O.N.E.S. received a call from a shelter in July asking for help with a “train wreck” of a beagle who was scheduled to be euthanized. Our representative arrived at the shelter just before his time was up. The assessment of him as a “train wreck” was pretty close to accurate. Dehydrated, barely able to walk, dry course coat, horribly rotten teeth, and a mass on one of his testicles. He was fixed up by one B.O.N.E.S.' regular vets and headed off to foster care for much needed TLC. After a few weeks in foster care, he began to gain back much of his strength. At this point he moved to his permanent retirement home with Kim and Stan where he has been showered with attention and love, just what every senior dog deserves. Unfortunately Grover has recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer, but so far he has not experienced any pain and is still able to enjoy life with his family. According to Kim in a recent update: "Grover is doing very well." When Stan brought him to the vet the other day, Mona told Stan that Grover was looking better now than she's ever seen him look and to keep doing what we were doing (whatever that is?!?). He is showing his personality now and has very strong ideas about what he likes, doesn't like, wants to do, doesn't want to do, but is always loving and gentle about it. I think the antibiotics are really helping him. Who knows for how long, but we're enjoying the ride for as long as it goes!” As you can see by these recent pictures Grover is enjoying the good life thanks to Kim and Stan! This is what our Sensational Senior Beagle Program is all about. With Grover's continuing medical needs any donations would be greatly appreciated! |
