"Helping Senior Beagles Find Their Way Home"
But the truth is, these beagles make wonderful companions! Many of our senior beagles are in relatively good health once they are vetted and have had their dental work. They might be a bit slower and require some extra attention, but they are just as loyal and loving as their younger fellow beagles. They deserve a place to call home! To address the problem of placing senior dogs we developed the Sensational Senior Beagle Program to encourage people/families to provide a home with a "supported adoption" for the dog's remaining years. This is how it works: The adoption fee will be waived and B.O.N.E.S. will retain veterinary rights on the dog. B.O.N.E.S. will provide for veterinary care* during the dog's "supported adoption" while the adoptive home provides for the daily needs of the dog: love, food, shelter and exercise. The adoptive home may opt to donate some of the routine vet care to B.O.N.E.S. as a tax deductible donation. If the adoptive home wishes to do this, this can be specified at the time of the contract signing or by letting the Senior Program Coordinator know at any time after the contract is signed. It is our hope that this program will allow us to accept more of the hundreds of requests we get to take in beagles over the age of 11. For now we are very happy to be able to offer this supported adoption situation for a few very needy and loving beagles who are just looking for a warm place with love and understanding to rest their heads in their golden years. Whenever possible, B.O.N.E.S. accepts senior beagles (11 years or older) into the program. It can be a challenge to place these dogs in forever homes because adoption statistics show that adopters are concerned about a shortened life span and increased veterinary costs.
