VOLUNTEER
B.O.N.E.S. volunteers are the heart and backbone of our organization and provide a wide variety of tasks. Volunteers can commit to working at a one time Special Event or help out more often with fundraising, transports, or home visits. Some beagle lovers commit to an ongoing project such as providing a foster home. No matter how much time you have to give, B.O.N.E.S. will utilize your talents and appreciate your dedication.
Foster Homes - Urgent Need
Foster homes provide temporary care for adult beagles, puppies and beagles with special needs while B.O.N.E.S. works with adoption applicants to find a new, permanent home. B.O.N.E.S. is looking for a special person/family with a strong commitment, patience, and time. Duration of stay varies depending on the adoption process.
All those interested in becoming a B.O.N.E.S. foster home must first be approved as a B.O.N.E.S. volunteer. Following that approval, a separate foster home approval process - including an interview and a home visit - will be conducted. Approval of foster homes is at the discretion of the foster director.**
Transport
B.O.N.E.S. takes in beagles throughout the New England area from shelters, animal control officers and owner surrenders. Beagles need to be transported from one location to another. Sometimes these transports involve many volunteers and many legs of a trip. Occasionally overnight stays are needed. Time, patience, and a vehicle are a must for transportation of the beagles.
Home Visits
A B.O.N.E.S. volunteer screens each prospective adopter's home and new foster home by means of a home visit. The home visit consists of a trip to the prospective adopter's home or foster home and an interview with the family. After the home visit is completed, the volunteer completes an online form.
Adoption Counseling
B.O.N.E.S. volunteers that assist in this area work one-on-one with potential adopters as they go through the application and approval process. Adoption Counselors review information from foster homes to match beagles with appropriate approved adopters. They also follow up with new adopters to make sure all is going well.
Fund Raising/Special Events
Assist B.O.N.E.S. by spreading the word about our organization through outreach and community activities or volunteer to work on fundraising projects that are necessary to sustain our mission to help beagles.
Grant Writing
If you have written grants and are knowledgeable in this area, we can use your talents.
Clerical Duties
Write thank you notes, prepare mailings, stuff envelopes, data entry, etc.
We hope your volunteer experience with B.O.N.E.S. will be a rewarding one and we thank you for your interest in helping the beagles of New England! If you would like to fill out a volunteer application, please click here.
If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please e-mail the Volunteer Director at: volunteers@bonesbeagles.org |

DONATE
B.O.N.E.S. depends on the compassion of people who want to help the beagles of New England. One way to show your support is by becoming a sponsor or making a donation to the general cause. Your donation will go directly to the rescue and rehoming of a beagle in need and your name will be added to the B.O.N.E.S. mailing list for periodic newsletters and other information. If you choose to sponsor a specific beagle on our web site, either click the "Sponsor Me" link on that available beagle's description page or just let us know and you will be mentioned on the site next to the beagle you are sponsoring.
Does your Company have a Matching Gift Program for 501(c)(3) charities? If so, please pay by check and mail in your completed company form to the address below.
Donate online through PayPal™!
It's easy, free, secure, and flexible!
You can donate to B.O.N.E.S. online using flexible payment options!
To make a one-time payment, click the "Donate" button (don't forget to include a message and/or declare yourself anonymous if you choose!) in the left column. You choose the dollar amount once you get to PayPal™.
To make a recurring (periodic) payment, use the dropdown boxes in the right column to tell us how many payments you'd like to make and how often. You can do weekly, monthly, yearly or even daily payments. For example, suppose you'd like to set up a bi-weekly payment of $10 for a year: enter "10" in the amount box, choose "2" for how often (or "every" part), "Week(s)" as the time frame (bi-weekly is "every 2 weeks") and "26" as the number of payments since there are 26 2-week periods in a year.
If you want to set up a monthly payment, we have set those as the default values for you below — all you need to do is fill in the amount you want to send in each month. If you only want this to happen for the next year, however, set the "number of payments" box to "12" (12 installment payments every month for a year). Otherwise, if you choose "Until Canceled" (the default option), the periodic payment you set up will continue until you go back into PayPal™ to cancel it.
We list our sponsors for this past month below, so please indicate whether or not you would like your name included or listed anonymously as "a Friend of B.O.N.E.S." You can even include a brief (up to 200 characters) message!

PLANNED GIVING
Are you looking for a way to support B.O.N.E.S. in the long term? We have been working with consultants and some of our volunteers to provide you with ideas in this area.
Dear B.O.N.E.S Volunteers and Supporters:
First came Ellie. Then Scout. And now Buddy makes three.

We adopted little Buddy-Beagle just about two weeks ago, fresh out of a New Jersey Laboratory where he had spent the first six years of his sweet life doing hard time for humans like us.
Buddy arrived in our foster (now permanent) home as Pepe, but the name hardly fit. Not only was Pepe not Latin, he had no pep at all -- of course I wouldn’t feel peppy either if I’d spent my entire life in a steel box being poked and prodded by humans. Still, and incredibly, Buddy is a wonder-dog: Sweet and gentle and loving, even after spending his whole life in cold steel laboratory cage.
So, for us, from the very start, it was no contest. A couple of days after Buddy’s arrival we took a family vote. On the very first ballot, with two hands and two paws enthusiastically raised in the affirmative, Buddy was warmly welcomed permanently into our family of five.
For me, beagles, more than anything, are about love -- the love we, as humans give them, and the love they return to us a thousand times over.
So, like all of you, I try to do whatever I can to demonstrate my love for beagles. Recently, with our beloved pups very much in mind, I amended my own will to bequeath 10% of my future estate to B.O.N.E.S., and I named B.O.N.E.S. a beneficiary of my retirement plan. Ellie, Scout, and Buddy all wagged when I signed the papers. But, of course, they’re always wagging about something.
After carefully considering your own financial situation, and after consulting with your own attorney/financial advisor, I sincerely hope that you will consider joining me by naming B.O.N.E.S. as a beneficiary -- of your will, your life insurance policy, or your retirement plan. A scratch of a pen can make a world of difference for B.O.N.E.S., and for beagles.

Ways to Give
A planned gift is your legacy and your way of extending your commitment past your lifetime to those wonderful dogs that have stolen all our hearts – the Beagles of New England. And you don't need to be wealthy to plan a gift to B.O.N.E.S. because every bit helps to ensure that B.O.N.E.S. can carry on its mission to help Beagles of New England into the future.
There are several simple ways you can provide a lasting gift to B.O.N.E.S. You can give B.O.N.E.S. a bequest through a will or you can name B.O.N.E.S. a beneficiary in your life insurance policy or retirement plan:
Bequests through Wills
Name B.O.N.E.S. in your will. It is one of the most popular and easiest ways to make a lasting contribution. Bequests may be in the form of a stated dollar amount, property, a percentage or the residuary of an estate.
Life Insurance
Name B.O.N.E.S. as the beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy or donate a policy that you already own and name B.O.N.E.S. as the owner and beneficiary.
Retirement Plans
Name B.O.N.E.S. as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your retirement plan.
As a B.O.N.E.S. Planned Giving Donor you will receive, with the beagles’ heartfelt thanks and, while supplies last, a hardback copy of the excellent Kristen Von Kreisler book “For Bea: The Story of a Beagle Who Changed My Life”. As a donor, you will also, if you wish, be enrolled in a dedicated B.O.N.E.S. planned giving Internet group. Enrollment in the group will give you access to behind the scenes rescue and other volunteer stories.
For more information from B.O.N.E.S. or to let us know that you have planned a gift for B.O.N.E.S. in the future; please send an e-mail to George Frost, B.O.N.E.S.' Planned Giving Coordinator. Thank you very much for considering offering B.O.N.E.S. a planned gift.
Nothing in the foregoing is offered as legal advice or should be taken as such. If you wish to make a planned gift to B.O.N.E.S., please first consult your attorney to evaluate your individual circumstances and to develop the best plan for you. |
