My name is Sam. I am a very quiet Beagle. I am unsure of people because I haven't had a lot of interaction with them, but my foster mom is really, really nice to me – I like her a lot! Sometimes when I am feeling a little daring, I will play a bit, but usually I am very reserved and laid back. I am not even very fussy – I like any toy or bone.

My foster brothers snuggle up with my foster mom. I like when she pets me, but I don't snuggle. Maybe I'll try it one day – it seems to make humans smile.

I am already house trained and crate trained. I am usually good, but if my foster mom catches me doing something wrong (I guess eating the cat's food is a no no) and she says “no,” I run and hide!

I am hoping to find a home of my own very soon. I hope my new family will give me lots and lots of love, affection and attention since I never had that growing up. My foster brothers told me that once I have a family like that of my own, I will gain some confidence that humans really can be a dog's best friend.

UPDATE: 3/18/12

Sam will cuddle. He's gotten much better about hugs and kisses. Sam will stay on the couch after I've hugged him now. When he first arrived he would leave immediately after I handled him. He has given me a couple of nose kisses lately - no licking, just putting his nose on me. I really think that if someone spent the time, he would be a real cuddler. Sam has gotten to be a bit playful as well. I have a houseful and it is hard to find one-on-one time but I think Sam would respond really, really well to being an only dog with someone who would be willing to bring out his personality more. Sometimes it's the most stand-offish ones who turn out to be the very best...
