In just eight years, B.O.N.E.S. has rescued more than 1,175 beagles
that were surrendered, abandoned, neglected or abused, and found loving, adoptive homes for them
throughout New England!

Additionally, the Sensational Senior Beagle Program was established to provide senior dogs a home with a "supported adoption" for their remaining years.

We can only continue to rescue beagles with your help.

The stories below are just a few of the happy endings made possible by
our dedicated team of volunteers and the generous donations of supporters like you...

Astro Astro is a true rescue story. A logger was deep in the woods of northern Vermont when he stumbled across a dog lying by a fallen tree, near death, dehydrated, starving, and covered with porcupine quills. The logger quickly called a friend who was the town's retired animal control officer, and she asked if the dog could lift his head. He could, but barely. The animal control officer took Astro to a local vet, where they spent hours removing porcupine quills and giving him intravenous fluids. They saved his life!

Astro After a few weeks, Astro gained some weight, got stronger, and was ready for adoption. One of our adopters was drawn to Astro's description on the website. Astro now shares his home with another dog and a wonderful mom. This is the type of happy ending that keeps us volunteering for the beagles of B.O.N.E.S.! (Please see Astro's "before" and "after" pictures.)

CallieCallie was brought to a Maine shelter by a family that could not keep her. The shelter realized that she needed help from a rescue group because she required extensive (and expensive) surgery. Callie could not use her back legs properly because she was born with her knees turned almost backwards. B.O.N.E.S. took Callie in and paid for the surgery. In foster care, Callie was kept quiet in a crate, with very short walks to gradually build up her muscles. After about six weeks of recovery, she was able to walk again, and was ready for adoption. She was adopted by a repeat B.O.N.E.S. adopter. Callie is now living a normal, active life, running and playing with her beagle brother, Spike.

An animal control officer called B.O.N.E.S. asking for help with a pair of ten year-old beagles, Molly and Bingo. They had always been together, but their owner could no longer afford to keep them. B.O.N.E.S. took them in and a dedicated foster home cared for both beagles, along with her own dogs. Finding homes for two dogs can be difficult, but placing two older beagles together is an even bigger challenge. Luckily, a repeat B.O.N.E.S. adopter fell in love with Molly and Bingo and kept them together. It is the nicest compliment for a rescue group when adopters come back again and again. Molly and Bingo are living the good life and enjoying their golden years. They're in town during the week and spend weekends at a lake house! Does it get any better than that?
